The Rose of Jericho is believed to have magical qualities because it goes from seemingly dead to vibrant life. It's used to usher in prosperity, cash and blessings while removing negativity. and blockages.
Hoodoo practitioners say that it will bring prosperity if you add five coins to the water or place the coins/bills on the plant after it unfurls. You can then leave the plant in the water for a few days before brushing the water onto windows and doors to let prosperity in.
In Santeria, the plant is connected with the spirit of thunder and lightning and is often presented as an offering to the spirits. It is said to bring happiness to those who bless themselves with it or the water from its bowl.
Christians see the Rose of Jericho as a symbolic of the womb of Mary, so it is often displayed at Christmas. Not surprisingly, they also see the death and resurrection of Christ in its ability to “die” and then recover.
Place your plant in a bowl of water, and it will unfold in a few hours. Don’t leave it standing in water for more than a few days, because it may rot.
Use non-chlorine water (tap water left out over night) or rain water. Change daily, and give it “rests” without water.
You can also grow it as you would an “air plant” or epiphyte. Its roots don’t need to attach to anything, so you can attach it to another plant’s stems or place it on the surface of a pot with pebbles. Mist it down from time to time to keep it looking fresh and lovely.
It will need partial light and shouldn’t be exposed to harsh frosts.
Please note plants vary in both size, shape and the color can range from deep brown to vivid green. Color/shape/size does not effect their magick.
